Hip Surgery

Dr de Hoog performs total hip replacement using the direct anterior approach - a muscle-sparing technique that avoids cutting the major hip muscles, reducing dislocation risk and supporting a faster, more confident recovery.

The approach

Each element of Dr de Hoog's hip practice is chosen to reduce risk and improve recovery outcomes.

Direct Anterior Approach

The hip is accessed through the front of the thigh, between muscle planes, without cutting the major hip abductor muscles. This reduces post-operative dislocation risk, supports earlier weight-bearing, and avoids posterior hip precautions.

Mako Robotic Assistance

Stryker Mako robotic technology uses a 3D CT-based pre-operative plan and real-time intraoperative guidance to optimise acetabular cup positioning. This reduces the variability inherent in manual surgery and helps protect the bearing surface long-term.

ERAS Protocol

Enhanced Recovery After Surgery means patients are standing and walking on the day of surgery. Multimodal analgesia reduces opioid reliance, and the coordinated team approach minimises the physiological stress of surgery - supporting earlier discharge and return to independence.
